Bach Partita No. 2 Chaconne

Chaconne is a dance originated from South America. It has a moderately slow rhythem, rhythm, with a recurring moving bass pattern. It has been said that Bach wrote it for his first wife, Maria Babara, after he returned from a trip to discovered that she has died.

Johannes Brahms said: "On one stave, for a small instrument, the man writes a whole world of the deepest thoughts and most powerful feelings. If I imagined that I could have created, even conceived the piece, I am quite certain that the excess of excitement and earth-shattering experience would have driven me out of my mind."

  1. Nice collection! Thanks so much for posting.

Right now my favorite ones are Vengerov's, Milstein's and Kogan's. But from this page I'll have plenty to digest for the next few months.
BTW: I finally got to hear the Chaconne live two weeks ago after waiting for about 14 years. It's really something else.
